Modern societies and their economies are built on infrastructure. This includes roads and rail, electrical and telecommunication grids, and services (fire, police, health care) and regulations. Infrastructure allows the individual societal and economic actors to interact with each other with high efficiency. It allows those interactions to be both dynamic and predictable. Societies and economies with strong infrastructure have great potential move goods services and expertise to where they are needed very quickly. They have great potential to generate wealth and welfare.

Great businesses too, are built on strong infrastructures. They include corporate cultures, HR systems, legal support, corporate directories, eMail, Portals etc. But outside of a company's boundaries the quality and sophistication of infrastructure to support efficient business operations falls off precipitously. This is especially true for small businesses that don't have the advantage of scale to justify internal infrastructure and must rely on external and public infrastructure. If I'm a small business, how do I find a necessary or complimentary skill? Do I have access to the knowledge of potential customers and the nuances of marketplaces? How do I combine my product or services with others to deliver composite value propositions to a global market?

We are entering the era of the globally integrated enterprise and the collaborative technologies that are allowing major corporations to create cultures of innovation.... recognize and promote great ideas and turn them into products that customers consume quickly... on a global basis... are being combined with web delivery technologies to allow smaller business entities to bind together into global virtual enterprises.

This presentation will look at the emergence of Business-Webs (BWebs) and the web based collaboration and community technology that will dramatically improve the efficiency with which value networks of small businesses can deliver goods and services to a global market.
